The First Week

We've been in the house a week.... what... just a week... seems like YEARS ago.  Had another day with not much movement on the box front.  But Target is our friend and now we have some shelving for all the closets.  Let me clarify, we HAVE the shelving... not in any closets, be HAVE it.  I guess I'll have to add "put shelving together" on my to do list.  "Buy shelving" just wasn't motivation enough to get it all done.

DAY FIVE

We've hit critical mass.... all critical items have been unpacked, leaving us with little motiviation to tackle the uncritical boxes.  It was a beautiful day here is SoCal, too nice to spend the entire day inside working.  So we spent most of it inside doing nothing!  Of course that was after I took all three kids out to do some errands and at the third stop... Lamps Plus... realized I still had my slippers on! Embarrassment and all, we continued on our quest and found great deals at Ross (since I was dressed for less already....)!  The Flamingo bathroom now is home to a 2 foot Flamingo!  Shhhhh.... I'm going to see how long it takes Dave to notice.   We also got a furry, purple, shag rug for Sarah's room and a tie-die pillow for Peggy's.  Don't worry, David got some catcher's gear... he's not feeling neglected!

All was not lost today, however.  Before I even got up, Dave installed a new showerhead in the girls' room.  One downside to 8-10 foot ceilings is the showers.  Now the girls can actually get wet in their shower by more than one nozzle hole at a time.  Have I mentioned that Dave is handy and I love him!!!

In other good news, we met a neighbor that has a 20 year old daughter WHO BABYSITS!  Already hired her to watch kids so I can go to my Girl Scout meeting while Dave is away!  They should list that on the MLS!!!

DAY FOUR

It was bound to happen.  Dave and I are smacking our heads saying "What have we gotten ourselves into?"  Three of the 7 sinks in the house have leaks.  Two just needed some tightening.  The kitchen sink however, is a mystery.  There's lots of water damage under there, but we haven't discovered the source.  We're hoping our experiment with paper towels helps solve the case. Meanwhile.....

Dave went to mow the lawn since we got a notice from the HOA in our escrow package (BEFORE WE EVEN OWNED THE HOUSE) that our lawn was not up to snuff.  And in the process discovered two broken sprinklers.  One had made a 10 inch deep sink hole.  He's a Lowe's right now getting the parts he needs.  Sorry girls, your beds will NOT be put back together today.  David's is done and the spare bedroom is done, however.  Laura and Nana, you now have a room, a bed, a closet AND your own bathroom and shower!  Let the visiting begin!

On a happier note, we've unpacked the wine glasses.  COME AND VISIT US!  And I've washed the glassware in the dishwasher and it made them all SPARKLY!  Even my glasses that haven't sparkled in years!  I LOVE MY NEW DISHWASHER (unless of course it's making the leaky mess, then I may have lower my enthusiasm to a dull REALLY LIKE).

DAY THREE - JUNE 24

Not as productive of day as I'd hoped, but that's okay.  The kids and I went blueberry picking.... well, I did most of the picking this year.  Blueberry pancakes for dinner!  We did get the cable (TV and internet) hooked up today!  FINALLY!  Now we're fighting over the computer since my laptop is still on the outs and I can't find my disks.... they're in a box SOMEWHERE!  But the good news is that the new cable can be watched in THREE DIFFERENT rooms in the house.  Of course, we only have two TVs until next week.  If you're thinking of buying a TV, stop by.... it's like a showroom over here!

DAY TWO - JUNE 23

Today we welcomed some flamingos and lizards to our new home.  Got you thinking? The flamingos are NOT real, just decorations in the girls' bathroom.  The lizards, however, are real.  I'd like to introduce, Bob and Fred.  I suggested Poop and Pee (David's two favorite subjects).  Although the kids thought these names were hilarious, David decided on Bob and Fred.  They love the house and KCee's old cage.  KCee, the turtle now has a bigger, better home for himself as well!

On a more productive note... the washer and dryer are now set up with their new pedastals.  Dave only suffered one small head injury with this task.  All cabinets are now cleaned and ready for for thier contents.  Let the unpacking begin!

Turquoise Daily Journal

I'll try to keep the mundane details out... but I hope to share our wonderful home with all of you!
DAY ONE - WED JUNE 22
Movers here and gone in about two hours.  Now the fun begins.... ORGANIZING!  My favorite pastime!  Two refrigerators showed up today as well.  I LOVE MY NEW FRIDGE!!!!!  Counter depth, water inside, ice maker (for Dave), alarm if you leave it open and the best part.... we now have TWO!  We bought a regular "old fashioned" one for the garage. We keep all the beer and drinks out there as well as the freezer overflow.  I got exactly the fridge I wantead (counter depth) but they all lack in the freezer department.  PROBLEM SOLVED!

Move In Day

Tomorrow is the big day.... movers here by noon! Tile done, wood flooring in, painting... well, mostly done, carpets cleaned, refrigerator coming tomorrow and cable on Friday. Bought a flat screen TV already and have made several trips to Bed, Bath and Beyond. We're READY!

We haven't even moved in and we've already done some much.  We bought the house with unfinished floors.  The previous owner had laid tile, but had NOT grouted it.  He had also purchased hardwood for the living and dining areas, but not laid it (these rooms were carpeted).  So we took the few days we had before moving in and got some work done! Tile is DONE, floroing is DONE, walls that REALLY needed some love are DONE.  New TV BOUGHT (our old rear projection TV did NOT make the move and is making some kids happy at a Youth Center in Santa Paula).  New washer/dryer pedastals BOUGHT.  New refrigerators BOUGHT.

In the Meantime.....

Our transition house is a conversation piece if ever there was one. The house is red.... and NOT just the outside. The counters, the cupboards, the furniture, the afgans, the dishes, the wall art, and the giant nose in the bathroom!

BUT.... it's a block from the beach and a stone's throw to Dave's work. And the dog and turtle were welcome guests. Our Beach Rental has been a nice home between homes!

The Turquoise House

You're probably wondering WHY we moved from a house we were totally happy in for so many years! Well, we WERE NOT planning on it. We have been talking about adding another room and bathroom to our house for years. We finally started talking to contractors about our options and found out that we're going to be spending alot of money on this construction. Just to make ourselves feel better about spending all that dough, we decided to take a look at what was on the market to ensure that we were spending our money in the right place. It was during this placating phase that we stumbled upon this short sale. The outside is nothing to write home about, but from the first time I drove by I thought "I need to see the inside of that house." And one step inside and I KNEW I loved it. Of course, it helps that one of our close friends has the EXACT same layout.

The inside needs some cosmetic work (there's no grout in the tile that covers the entire downstairs), but I'll add some additional pictures next WEDNESDAY when we actually OWN the house!

A TOUR:
Lots of pictures here. I apoligize in advance, I took them with my phone, not the greatest... you'll just have to come visit!  As you enter the front door there are two identical rooms. On one side is the formal living room which we will be using as a Study.  It will house our desk and soon some comfy sitting chairs.  On the other side is the formal dinning room.  This will be empty for a while!  Down the hall is my laundry room, YES, laundry room.  It's sooooooo cool and one of the things I love most about the house.  You also pass the stairs on your way to the open dining area/kitchen/family room.  The kitchen has a beautiful island big enough for four stools.  There is also a spare room and bathroom just off this dining area.  Through the family room is the jungle.  The house is 3 years old and the backyard has NEVER been landscaped.  So mother nature and her good humor have landscaped it for us.  The picture is from the master bath window.  The yard is HUGE (by CA standards).  It will eventually be home to a trampoline, a putting green, KCee's garden, and a patio.  RIght now it only home to something that rustles around in the tall, tall grass and 546 billion prickers.  The house also boasts a 3 car garage (or rather a one car garage, a craft room and a gaming room complete with couch and TV).

We're Moving!

At this point and time, we are NOT home owners! We have moved out of our home of 10 years and are renting a beach house in Silver Strand while we wait for escrow to be completed on our new home. The new house is only 1.2 miles from our previous one. It boasts a large backyard, a THREE car garage, a spare bedroom (COME AND VISIT!), and a laundry room. I'm acutally looking forward to doing laundry!
