Mary and I had a wonderful trip. It was so great to have all that time to talk and chat and gab and just hang out. We learned one thing on the trip... the Rhode in Rhode Island doesn't mean a thing. We got lost just about every time we ventured out in the car! The lack of signs, disappearing lanes and cryptic directions, it's amazing we made it any of our destinations.
The Edgewood B&B we stayed at was awesome! The two houses were beautifully restored, filled with antiques, and completely comfortable. The house we stayed in has a residence attached to it and the two kids of the original owners still live there... they are 95 and 93 years old!!!!!!
Take a look at all my photos here. We packed lots in for three days. After waiting over 2 hours for a rental car we drove from Boston to Providence in the dark through torrential rain... locals were pulling over it was so bad. But it was dry in Providence and we headed out for a late dinner of Fish and Chips at O'rourke's Irish Pub in South Providence. Saturday morning we had a few hours to kill before the wedding. After a wonderful home cooked meal we headed to downtown Providence to wander the streets. They are doing a great job of revitalizing downtown without taking away from the historic look and feel of the place. Then we headed West to the wedding which was at a retreat center for URI. It was a beautiful wedding and very nice reception followed by a bonfire complete with smores! Sunday was Kingsbury day... we went to my uncle's house and had a mini family reunion. Cousins came from everywhere to see me! I was so flattered! More pictures of that here. I got to see my dad and Helen, too. I even got to meet Peanut!
We had an extraordinary dinner Sunday night at a restaurant in Providence. Mary needed oyster's! Monday we had most of the day before having to drive back to Boston. We headed to Newport and strolled the cliffwalk to see the Mansions. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day!
Mary, just promise me we won't wait another decade before we do this again!!!
